Thirteen lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly are from Imo State – three in the Senate and ten in the House of Representatives. This article tells you about them and the constituencies they represent.

Imo State, located in Nigeria’s Southeast geopolitical zone, is the third smallest state by land mass but the fourteenth most populous state with an estimated population of over 5.4 million as of 2022. The state is divided between the Niger Delta swamp forests and the drier Cross-Niger transition forests.

The state economy heavily depends on agricultural production, particularly palm oil, and minor industries include crude oil and natural gas extraction. Imo State has the country’s joint-sixth highest Human Development Index despite unrest. 

Imo State is currently governed by a two-time senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

Sen. Ndubueze is currently serving his first term as a Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District under the platform of the APC. Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi

Sen. Onyeawuchi is currently serving his second term as a Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District under the platform of the Labour Party (LP). He was first elected as a senator in June 2019 and served as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on State and Local Government from (2019-2023).

Sen. Onyewuchi also served as a member representing the Owerri-Municipal/Owerri-North/West-Federal Constituency (2011-2019) under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). She was first elected in 2020 following a tribunal judgement in August 2020, which upheld her victory in the re-election against Obinna Onwubuariri. Rep. Ugonna is serving his second term in the National Assembly as member representing Nkwerre/ Nwangele/Isu/Njaba Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives under the platform of the PDP. He served as a Deputy Speaker Imo State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2019, as House Committee Chairman on Religion, Majority Chief Whip and House Committee Chairman on Public Utilities before contesting in the 2019 general election and was elected as a member of the House of Reps.
