The House of Representatives on Tuesday received the 2024 statutory budget proposal for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from President Bola Tinubu.

The proposal was contained in the letter, addressed to Speaker of the House, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas and was presented by Rep. Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session and said the submission complies with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

President Tinubu emphasized that the proposal was crafted based on NDDC’s revenue and expenditure forecasts, aligning with the Federal Government’s fiscal and developmental policies. The proposal supports the Renewed Hope Agenda and considers the 2024-2026 Economic Recovery Growth Plan and the key assumptions of the 2024 Appropriation Act.

The budget aims to enhance security, create jobs, empower youth and women, improve social welfare, and boost educational infrastructure. Additionally, it seeks to increase agricultural productivity, fostering economic growth in the Niger Delta and nationwide.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the House’s swift consideration and approval of the budget, extending his highest regards to the Speaker and the House members.

While I trust that the House of Representatives will in their expeditious manner consider and approve the 2024 Statutory Budget Proposal of the NDDC, please accept Rt. Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration and regards,” the letter partly reads.

Following the reading, Deputy Speaker Rep. Kalu referred the proposal to the House Committee on NDDC for further legislative action.
