The House of Representatives has directed the Director of the Department of State Services to take over the investigation and prosecution of personnel found complicit in the escape of Binance executives.

Reps task Committee to probe escape of Binance executives

The House of Representatives expressed grave concern during plenary on Wednesday over the escape of Binance Executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla from the National Security Adviser’s custody, describing it as “Disappointing, embarrassing, and disturbing.”

Lawmakers questioned why someone who had committed heinous acts against Nigeria was housed in a guest house rather than in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) as it mandated the Director of the Service to take over the investigation and prosecution of personnel found complicit in Anjarwalla’s escape.

Additionally, the House tasked the House Committees on Financial Crimes, National Security, Intelligence, Interior, and Police with investigating the matter and reporting back within two weeks.

These resolutions were reached following the urgent matter raised by Rep. Dominic Okafor (Anambra, APGA) on the “Need to investigate security breach leading to the escape of Binance executive, Anjarwalla from the custody of the National Security Adviser.”

OrderPaper recalls that recently, the Nigerian government cracked down on the cryptocurrency platform in a bid to strengthen the naira. Among other charges filed against Binance were tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering to the tune of $35,400,000.

Also, recall that in March the House recommended the arrest of Binance executives following their failure to appear before the House.
