The Senate also confirmed Dr Kelechi Ohiri as the Director-General, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The Senate has confirmed 17 persons for appointment as commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC) out of the 19 nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
These confirmations sequel the adoption of the screening report of the Committee on National Identity Card and Population at the Committee of the Whole during Wednesday’s plenary.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi), said out of the 19 persons nominated, 17 appeared for the screening.
According to him, the nominees representing Ondo and Ogun States did not appear, following the recent political developments in their states.
After the presentation of this report, the Senate thereafter confirmed the following nominees: Emmanuel Eke (Abia), Clifford Zirra (Adamawa), Chidi Ezeoke (Anambra), Isa Buratal (Borno), Alex Ukam (Cross River), Blessyn Brume-Maguha (Delta) and Jeremiah Nwankwegu (Ebonyi).
Others include Tony Alyejina (Edo), Ejike Ezeh (Enugu), Abubakar Damburam (Gombe) Uba Nnabue (Imo), Sa’adatu Garba (Kaduna), Aminu ITsanyawa (Kano), Yori Afolabii (Kogi), Mary Afan(Plateau), Saany Sale (Taraba) and Ogiri Henry (Rivers).
Similarly, the Senate confirmed Dr Kelechi Ohiri as the Director-General, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary) chaired by Senator Ipalibo Banigo (PDP-Rivers West) who said the committee carefully scrutinised the Curriculum Vitae presented by the nominee.
“The nominee is well experienced and adequately exposed at the top international and domestic levels and has the capacity to function as the director-general of the NHIA,’’ Ipalibo added.
In his remarks, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio urged Ohiri to continue to apply his wisdom and expertise on the job to move the nation forward.
