In a rare occurrence, the House of Representatives says to sit on Saturday, and the sole agenda will be to pass the 27.5 trillion appropriation bill for the 2024 fiscal year
The House of Representative will pass the 2024 appropriation bill on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
TheSpeaker, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas (APC, Kaduna), disclosed this at the plenary session on Tuesday.
He urged the lawmakers to ensure that they are present for the passage of the bill and also show up for other proceedings in the assembly before the scheduled date.
“I want to inform you that the official day for the passage of the budget is Saturday, 30th December 2023, between this period all other things like compilation and processing of the bills will take place.
“So please take note, those of you who want to go for Christmas, 30th December is the official date for budget passage,” he said.
Recall that the president, Bola Tinubu had presented the budget to the National Assembly on November 29, 2023, and after two days of debate on its general principles, the House passed the N27.5 trillion estimate for second reading.
Following the budget defence hearing with several Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) commenced at committee level.
Recall also that the joint committee on appropriation of the National Assembly had issued an ultimatum for the submission of committee reports on the 2024 budget.
However, the speaker informed members at plenary that the committee on appropriation has asked all sub-committees to submit their reports on the 2024 budget estimates by 8pm today.
