The Nigerian Senate has announced a postponement of its scheduled plenary until Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

This is contained in a letter signed by Chinedu Francis Akubueze, Clerk of the Senate, on Monday, believed to have been necessitated by the change in date of the Governorship and State Assembly Elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“This is to inform all Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the Senate in Plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday 14th March 2023 to Tuesday 21st March 2023.

All Distinguished Senators are, by this notice, requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday 21st March 2023 by 10:00 am prompt, please.”

Following its resumption on February 28 from recess embarked upon by lawmakers ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Red Chamber had, on March 2, adjourned plenary till Tuesday, March 14. This followed a motion moved by Acting Senate Leader, Senator Ajayi Borroffice and seconded by Minority Leader, Senator Philip Aduda.

The recent adjournment of plenary to Tuesday, 21st  March, is to enable the Senators to partake in the Governorship and Assembly elections initially secheduled for March 11 but shifted to March 18, 2023.
