Nigeria’s South East geo-political zone has 15 Senators and 71 members in the House of Representatives altogether in the Ninth National Assembly. This Scorecard is focused on their performance in since the inauguration of the parliament between June 2019 and May 2022.

It thus highlights the contributions made by these federal legislators from the five States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. in the area of bills sponsorship for the period under review

SENATE SCORECARD

South East

 

Senators from the five states of the zone varied in performance in terms of bill sponsorship in the third year of the 9th National Assembly. The South East lawmakers sponsored a total of 199 bills, constituting 19.7% of the 1,009 bills sponsored by the 109-member Senate in the period under review (June 2019 – May 2022).

Senators Lilian Uche Ekwunife and Stella Adaeze Oduah both from Anambra State, topped the pack from the zone at mid-term (2019 – 2021), and maintained their lead at the third-year review.

Senator Oduah with 39 bills, is, however, atop the Female Senators Bills Chart based on the volume of bills sponsored since 2019. She is a former Minister of Aviation..

 

STATE-BY-STATE CONTRIBUTIONS

The performance analysis of the States in terms of bills sponsorship reveals that Senators from the Anambra State had the highest bill tally, with a total of 88 bills constituting 8.7% of the 1,009 bills. See table below:

    1. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North), Senate Chief Whip with 25 bills
    2. Senator Chukwuka Godfrey Utazi (PDP, Enugu North), Minority Whip of the Senate, with 16 bills in his name.

FEMALE LAWMAKERS

  1. Senator Stella Adaeze Oduah (PDP, Anambra North) with a total of 39 bills.
  2. Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife (PDP, Anambra Central) with a total of 29 bills.

 

EX-GOVERNORS

  1. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North), Senate Chief Whip with 25 bills
  2. Senator Rochas Okorocha (APC, Imo West), with 15 bills
  3. Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji (PDP, Abia Central), with ten bills
  4. Senator Samuel Ominiyi Egwu (PDP, Ebonyi North), with seven bills
  5. Senator Chimaroke Ogbonnia Nnamani (PDP, Enugu East), who sponsored just one bill.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCORECARD

South East

Like their counterparts in the Senate, the Lawmakers from the South East geo-political zone recorded varied performance in terms of bills sponsorship.

The zone has 71 members in the House of Representatives.

Members of the zone accounted for 349 which constitute 17.63% of the total of 1979 bills sponsored by the Lawmakers of the green chamber.

The performance analysis from the zone on a state-by-state basis is represented below:

    1. Rep Nkeiruka Onyejiocha (APC, Abia), Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, with 35 bills
