Third Year Scorecard of the House of Reps reveals Speaker and Deputy sponsored 21% of the 188 bills proposed by Presiding and Principal Officers

At the end of OrderPaper’s Appraisal of the Ninth National Assembly for the third consecutive year (2019 – May 2022), bill tally of lawmakers in the House of Representatives was 1,979.

This Performance Scorecard of officers in the chamber further reveals that Speaker Gbajabiamila and Deputy Speaker Wase sponsored 21% of the 188 bills proposed by Presiding and Principal Officers in the last three years.

 

 

 

Principal

PRESIDING OFFICERS

Femi Gbajiabiamila
A representative for Surulere Federal Constituency I at the House of Representatives since 2003, following his election under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

He was Minority Leader in the 7th Assembly and Majority Leader in the 8th Assembly. Interestingly, he has, in spite of his position as Speaker of the 9th House, sponsored 23 bills as of May 2022. These bills include a piece of legislation seeking to amend the Electric Power Reforms Act, which has been passed by the House and transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.

 

Ahmed Idris Wase
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, he has so far sponsored 17 bills in the period under review.

First elected under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2007, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain has secured his party’s nod to return to the National Assembly in the next dispensation.

PRINCIPAL OFFICERS (MAJORITY CAUCUS)

Alhassan Ado-Doguwa
The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives has so far, sponsored ten bills in the period under review.

He has been around the institution of parliament since 1992 when he was elected under the platform of the then Social Democratic Party to represent Tudun -Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker has also secured his party’s nod to return to the green chamber in the next elections.

 

Peter Akpatason
Deputy Majority Leader of the House, he represents Akoko Edo Federal Constituency of Edo State. The outspoken legislator has so far, sponsored two bills in the period under review.

 

Mohammed Tahir Monguno
Representing Monguno/Nganzai/Marte Federal Constituency in the federal parliament, Rep. Monguno ranks highest in the bills tally among Principal Officers in the House of Representatives with 53 bills.

A staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he is the Chief Whip of the House and has since secured his party’s nod to contest the Senatorial elections in the 10th Assembly.

 

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha
The lawmaker representing Isukwuato/Ummuneochi Federal Constituency has so far sponsored 35 bills in the period under review.

The lone female Principal officer in the Ninth National Assembly was formerly of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC), from where she was elevated to the position of  Deputy Chief Whip of the House in 2019.

PRINCIPAL OFFICERS (MINORITY CAUCUS)

 

Ndudi Godwin Elumelu
A representative of Aniocha North/Aniocha South Federal Constituency in the federal parliament, he has so far sponsored ten bills in the period under review.

First elected to the House in 2007, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives is a staunch chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)

 

Toby Okechukwu
The lawmaker representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives is the Deputy Leader of the Minority Caucus.

He is a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has sponsored three bills in the period under review.

 

Gideon Lucas Gwani
The Minority Whip of the House of Representatives has so far, sponsored 30 bills in the period under review. The People’s Democratic Party lawmaker represents Kaura Federal Constituency in the federal parliament.

 

Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid
The lawmaker representing Ijebu East/Ijebu North/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency has, so far, sponsored five bills in the period under review. Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, he is a staunch member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
