2023: APC expresses doubt about BVAS, wants INEC’s re-assurance
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has expressed doubt over the possibility of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) producing a fair result for the 2023 elections.
Senator Adamu expressed his reservation during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Commonwealth Election Observation Mission for the 2023 General Election to the party secretariat on Wednesday.
“To transmit results, every part of the nation – Nigeria, I’m not sure that the network covers it, I know that even in parts of Abuja, there is no network, and we have from now till February when in substantial parts of the country, there is no electricity.
INEC must assure us 100 per cent that as of when due in transmitting results, they are ready because they spoke about recharging batteries. But we heard in previous elections when it says it can’t recharge,” the APC Chairman remarked.
2023: “It’s realistically impossible to resume Voters Registration” – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it will be “constitutionally and legally impossible” to resume the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, which it ended on July 31.
Spokesperson of the election management body, Festus Okoye, made this disclosure on Tuesday during a Channels Television interview when he commented on reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered INEC to resume the CVR exercise.
“This is without prejudice to the commission’s position that we abide and obey judgements and orders from properly constituted courts of law. Realistically, it will be next to impossible for the commission to mobilise the necessary resources to go back and start the CVR,” Okoye explained.
