OrderPaperToday- The National Association of State Lawmakers has lent its support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Change Agenda.

The association’s Chairman Mr. Kassim M. Kassim (Nasarawa State) reiterated this while addressing news men in Abuja after their inaugural meeting over the weekend.

He stated disappointment in the fact that in the past, state law makers were not heard anywhere on national issues.

Kassim explained that the association offers a platform for state law makers to effectively garner Nigerians’ support around the change agenda of President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration, with anti-corruption crusade as its fulcrum.

He said: “For the most part, corruption has bedevilled Nigeria’s political scene encompassing abuses by government officials such as embezzlement and nepotism, as well as abuses linking public and private actors such as bribery, extortion, influence peddling, and fraud”.

The Nasarawa State lawmaker expressed confidence that through the popular will of the people, President Buhari will fight against corruption instead of  paying lip service to it.

Asked on the mission of the association, Mr. Kassim said: “Our mission in this regard is to rally Nigerians around the anti-corruption crusade of the President in the overall interest of the development of the nation. To achieve that we shall embark on massive sensitisation campaigns and advocacy visits to better educate Nigerians on how they can form the bedrock of this crusade”.

He also mentioned that the group will give its backing to the diversification of the nation’s economy through agriculture.

“Our association is in tune with President Buhari’s policy direction in agriculture and will step it down and legislate at various state Assemblies for governments at all levels to follow suit.”
