OrderPaperToday – Chairman Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt, Shehu Sanni has said that civil servants should be held responsible for the discrepancies in the 2016 budget proposal.
Sanni stated this in Abuja while reacting to the cause of the extension of the 2016 budget defence which requires correction and amendments.
He said the dysfunctions in the 2016 budget have dominated public debate in the past few weeks.
The lawmaker stressed the need for civil servants to desist from corrupt practices, change their negative attitude to work and do what is right.
It should be recalled that the Senate had on Tuesday postponed Plenary to next week to enable it meet with relevant MDAs and complete work on the 2016 budget proposal.
One of the problems identified in the budget is that it was rushed before submission to the National Assembly.
Critics are also claiming many of the figures on the 2016 budget were simply cut from the 2015 budget and pasted into this year’s document.
The extension is therefore to do ensure that at the end of the day the National Assembly passes a document that is acceptable to all Nigerians
It is a fresh start for those that have just been appointed by President Buhari to the helms of affairs of some parastatals and agencies
It is also expected that they get a grasp of the budget when coming for defence.
